• Lidl Herne Bay


Lidl are proposing a new neighbourhood foodstore on land at Roundabout Farm, Thanet Way (A2990), Herne Bay. The site comprises a parcel of land that currently houses some untidy industrial units and is partially used for grazing, situated close to the roundabout junction of Thanet Way (A2990), Greenhill Road and Greenhill Bridge Road.

Our original application was refused in March 2018 by the narrowest of margins; the council were of the opinion that our proposals would have an unacceptable impact on the loss of open space along Thanet Way. In response to this we are proposing the enclosed new and improved scheme; having moved the building eastwards we will be tidying up the old industrial units and, therefore, building on land that has already been developed. In addition a paddock will be retained on the western boundary, so providing a continuous open space buffer back down Thanet Way.

As part of our ongoing commitment to public consultation, we are again delighted to be able to provide members of the local community with an overview of our exciting development proposals. This website provides links to our planning application that has been submitted to Canterbury City Council.

Proposed Development

  • Provision of a new 1,325m² (sales area) neighbourhood foodstore;
  • 125 car parking spaces including 7 Disabled and 8 Parent & Child spaces; and
  • Creation of up to 40 jobs for local residents.
